Synopsis

Some things are worth waiting for…

Traveling thousands of miles from home to enter college is the only way nineteen-year-old Avery Morgansten can escape what happened at the Halloween party five years ago—an event that forever changed her life. All she needs to do is make it to her classes on time, make sure the bracelet on her left wrist stays in place, not draw any attention to herself, and maybe—please God—make a few friends, because surely that would be a nice change of pace. The one thing she didn’t need and never planned on was capturing the attention of the one guy who could shatter the precarious future she’s building for herself.

Some things are worth experiencing…

Cameron Hamilton is six feet and three inches of swoon-worthy hotness, complete with a pair of striking blue eyes and a remarkable ability to make her want things she believed were irrevocably stolen from her. She knows she needs to stay away from him, but Cam is freaking everywhere, with his charm, his witty banter, and that damn dimple that’s just so… so lickable. Getting involved with him is dangerous, but when ignoring the simmering tension that sparks whenever they are around each other becomes impossible, he brings out a side of her she never knew existed.

Some things should never be kept quiet…

But when Avery starts receiving threatening emails and phone calls forcing her to face a past she wants silenced, she’s has no other choice but to acknowledge that someone is refusing to allow her to let go of that night when everything changed. When the devastating truth comes out, will she resurface this time with one less scar? And can Cam be there to help her or will he be dragged down with her?

And some things are worth fighting for…

WAIT FOR YOU is available now!

utopYA Announces JLA as the Keynote Speaker

5:11 PM Vi Nguyen 0 Comments

JLA and utopYA Con has just announced that Jen will be the keynote speaker for this awesome convention.

What is utopYA Con, you say?

"utopYA CON is a convention for female authors of paranormal stories involving romance, dystopian futures, vampires, werewolves, angels, demons, and demigods,(and everything in between), and the fans who love them."

Here's a little about what Jen has to say regarding the news:

“I am so excited to be presenting the keynote speech, and sharing my not-so-typical road to publication. Can not wait to meet everyone!” said Jennifer of her invitation.

The only problem is, if you don't already have a ticket, you're outta luck because it's SOLD OUT! If you're already set on going, I hope you all have fun!

utopYA will be going on from June 28-30th at the Scarritt-Bennett Center in Nashville, TN.

A Wait For You Teaser & Playlist Contest

10:08 PM Vi Nguyen 1 Comments

Jen gives fans just a little taste of Cam from Wait For You today and a pretty huge giveaway, which she says isn't even the epic one! She is just too awesome!

Warmth slid through my veins as my body tensed in a welcomed, delicious way.
My eyes fluttered shut as his lips brushed mine once and then twice, as if he was getting reacquainted with the feel of them.
The slight, barely there touch was nerve racking.
Cam shifted his weight onto his left arm and with his other hand, he spread his fingers along my cheek. He placed a kiss to the corner of my lips and the other side before sliding his hand back around the nape of my neck. His lips moved along my jaw, trailing a fiery path to my ear. A shiver danced along my skin, eliciting a deep, husky chuckle from him. His lips pressed against the sensitive spot under my ear, and a moan crawled up my throat.
“Goodnight, Avery.”
And then he kissed me—kissed me like he’d had right before he’d left the night of our date. Kissed me like he was a man starving for oxygen and I was the only air he needed to breathe. The hand around my neck held me there, raised up on my elbows as his mouth devoured mine. And that was the only word I could use to accurately explained how he kissed me.
Cam devoured me.

What do you think of Cam?

Isn't he delicious?!

Go enter Jen's fantastic giveaway for these cool prizes:

Another Wait For You Teaser & A Giveaway

6:54 PM Vi Nguyen 1 Comments

March 4th is slowly creeping up, which is getting Jen and fans super excited! Today Jen treats fans to another teaser from Wait For You:

“Yes,” I whispered.
He didn’t say anything again for another long moment. Instead, his eyes moved over my face in a slow perusal. “You okay?” I nodded.
His hand moved down and his thumb brushed the edge of my lip. I sucked in a sharp breath, becoming hyperaware of how close we were. Strange, I realized. I had wanted something to say to make the night disappear, but it wasn’t necessarily words I needed.
A touch, a single look was just as powerful.
I wasn’t thinking of anything but him in that moment. There was a freedom in that I hadn’t experienced before.
His gaze was centered on my lips and as soon as I realized that, my heart kicked into overdrive, sending my blood rushing.
There wasn’t a lot of space separating us. All he’d have to do is move two or three inches and that would be it.
Then his gaze flicked up.
Cam closed the little distance between us before I had a chance to move away. My heart leapt in my chest at the thought that he might kiss me, that I was literally seconds away from my first kiss, and I had no idea what to do. My mouth felt funny after all the crying and I was sitting on a toilet, which probably wasn’t the most romantic of all settings.
But he didn’t kiss me. He pressed his forehead against mine and let out a ragged breath that smelled of mint. “You drive me fucking insane sometimes.”
I drove myself fucking insane. “Sorry?”
Cam pulled back a little, his eyes searching my face. “Don’t run off like that again, okay? I was worried shitless when I couldn’t find you and no one knew where you were.”
I almost apologized again, but apologies were really like wishes. There were an abundance of both in my life and neither really made a difference. So I did something I don’t even think I’d ever done, not even before.
Scooting forward, I pressed my lips to his smooth cheek. His eyes widened, and I inched back. Under his intense stare, I wondered if that had been the wrong thing to do.
Cam started to move forward and then stopped. His eyes were so large and they were truly beautiful, unique in the way the hue seemed to deepen and darken. “Avery?”
I swallowed. “Cam?”
He didn’t give me his lopsided grin or show off his one dimple. “Go out on a date with me.”

What do you think?

Also, she is hosting a massive giveaway on her blog for some pretty cool books, some of which are her own, along with a TON of swag. Be sure to go and enter!

My Review of Cursed by Jennifer L. Armentrout

9:00 AM Vi Nguyen 0 Comments

Dying sucks--and high school senior Ember McWilliams knows firsthand. After a fatal car accident, her gifted little sister brought her back. Now anything Ember touches dies. And that, well, really blows. Ember operates on a no-touch policy with all living things--including boys. When Hayden Cromwell shows up, quoting Oscar Wilde and claiming her curse is a gift, she thinks he's a crazed cutie. But when he tells her he can help control it, she's more than interested. There's just one catch: Ember has to trust Hayden's adopted father, a man she's sure has sinister reasons for collecting children whose abilities even weird her out. However, she's willing to do anything to hold her sister's hand again. And hell, she'd also like to be able to kiss Hayden. Who wouldn't? But when Ember learns the accident that turned her into a freak may not've been an accident at all, she's not sure who to trust. Someone wanted her dead, and the closer she gets to the truth, the closer she is to losing not only her heart, but her life. For real this time.

First off, you know I’ a huge fan of Jennifer Armentrout and will read anything by her. With that said, I’ll admit that although Cursed was a good read with steady pacing and an interesting storyline (who doesn’t love humans with special abilities/powers), it wasn’t one of my favorites. I didn’t feel the pull that I usually get with Jen’s books and found myself pretty blasé while reading it.

I felt like Ember wasn’t as strong a herione as Jen’s female characters usually are. She quickly accepted her circumstances after her run-in with the Cromwell family and basically let them run the show. I understand she was outnumbered and inexperienced, but her inner strength and determination didn’t shine through as much as I would’ve liked. I definitely sympathized with how she lost her parents and had to raise her little sister on her own and thought from those hardships she’d be a tough one to mess with. But she easily lets the Cromwells steal the show and run her life without much of a fight.

Hayden was nice enough, although I felt like his character needed to be a bit more developed and I didn’t fall for him right off the bat. He also played the “hot and cold” game that I hate so much, so that was a turn off. Still, I’m glad that although there as an instant attraction, Ember’s relationship with Hayden developed at a believable and sweet pace. Hayden’s power is pretty cool too, and I wished there had been more about him and his skills. There were also a few suprises in Ember’s past that come up and you learn just how entertwined her life is with the Cromwells. I felt pretty frustrated for Ember through much of the book, but the ending was pretty killer and very exciting. It was easily one of my favorite parts of the book, besides all the kissing scenes, of course (I’m a sucker for those). I think if Jen has the chance to add a second book to Cursed, more details and character development could be established and this could be a really great series.

While the storyline progressed readily enough and there were a few suspenseful mysteries that slowly unraveled as you read, it wasn’t enough to really capture and entice me. I still enjoyed it enough and regardless, Jen’s writing is as stellar as always in Cursed. It’s definitely worth adding to your shelves, let me assure you. If you like kids with special powers, an on-going mystery, and a sexy, sweet guy (Come on now, who wouldn’t?!) – then you’ll definitely want to give Cursed a read.

And some things are worth fighting for…

AND Jen gives us a pretty sweet teaser to hold us off until the release date:

Another fat glob of rain hit my nose, and I squeaked. My eyes met Cam’s. He swore and then grabbed my hand. We started running across the roof, our shoes slipping on the wet surface. We’d almost made it to the door when the sky ripped open and chilly rain poured, soaking us within seconds.
He let out a loud laugh as I shrieked. “Oh my God,” I yelled. “It’s so freaking cold!”
Stopping abruptly, he turned and pulled me against him. My eyes widened as I was suddenly and most unexpectedly flush against his hard chest. My head jerked up and our gazes locked. Rain streamed down on us, but in that second, I didn’t feel a thing.
He smiled.
That was his only warning.
Wrapping an arm around my waist, he dipped and lifted me off my feet, laying me over his shoulder. I shrieked again, but it was lost in his laugh.
“You were running too slow,” he yelled over the rain.
I gripped the back of his hoodie. “Put me down, you son of a—”
“Hold on!” Laughing, he took off for the door, his arm clamped across my hips, holding me in place.
A couple of times he slipped in the puddles forming, and my heart dropped. I could easily see my skull cracking wide open.
Each step jolted through me, causing little grunts to escape in-between my continuous threats to do him bodily harm.
He ignored them or just laughed.
Cam skidded to a stop and threw open the door. Ducking down, he entered the dry, slightly warmer landing above the stairwell. Still laughing, he gripped my hips. I was prepared to lay into him the moment he let go, but as he lowered me to my feet, my body slid down his, inch by inch. It must’ve been our wet clothing, because the friction caused the air to punch from my lungs.
His hands were still on my hips; the touch searing through my jeans. I lifted my head and our gazes locked. The hue of his eyes darkened into a deep, intense blue that was as consuming as it was shattering. Those perfectly formed lips of his parted and his warm breath was slightly minty.
My entire front was pressed against his. Sensation exploded in various parts of my body. Deep in my stomach, my muscles coiled, and my thighs tingled. My hands were pressed to his chest and I wasn’t sure how that happened. I hadn’t remembered putting them there, but they were, and his heart pounded under my palm, a steady thump that matched my own.
One hand slid up my side, leaving behind an unfamiliar, heady rush of shivers. I gasped as his fingers trailed across my cheek, brushing the wet strands of hair back behind my ear.
“You’re soaked,” he said, his voice deeper than normal.
Mouth dry, I swallowed. “So are you.”
His hand lingered, fingers splayed so that his thumb was against my cheek. He made tiny, idle circles on my skin. “I guess we’re going to have to try this another night.”
“Yeah,” I whispered, fighting the urge to close my eyes and to lean into his touch.
“Maybe we should’ve checked the weather first,” Cam said, and I had to smile at that.
Then he shifted just a fraction of an inch. A slight movement that somehow brought us even closer together, hip to hip. A shudder rocked its way down my spine. The awareness of my body and his, all of it was overwhelming. I was responding to him in an instinctual way, in a manner I was wholly unaccustomed to. My body knew what to do, what it wanted, even though my brain was firing off so many warnings I felt like Homeland Security during a Code Red.
I jerked back, breaking contact. My breath was coming in and out in short bursts as I kept backing up, hitting the wall behind me. Soaked, cold clothing and I was too hot. Burning up. My voice sounded unfamiliar when I spoke. “I think we… we should call it a night.”
Cam leaned back, resting his head against the opposite wall, legs spread slightly apart. Everything about him looked tensed and strained. “Yeah, we should.”

She's also hosting a giveaway on her blog for a turtle charm, since Cameron (the swoon-worthy leading guy has a pet turtle named Raphael). Be sure to visit her blog to enter to win!

What do you guys think of this news? I'm SOOOOOO excited!

My Review of Tempting the Player by J. Lynn

9:00 AM Vi Nguyen 0 Comments

Chad Gamble, all-star pitcher for the Nationals, is one of the best players on—and off—the field. And right now, the notorious bad boy wants Bridget Rodgers. But with her lush curves and snappy comebacks, the feisty redhead is the kind of woman a man wants to settle down with…and that’s the last thing Chad needs. When the paparazzi catch them in a compromising position, Chad’s manager issues an ultimatum: clean up his act or kiss his multi-million dollar contract goodbye. To save his career, his meddling publicist says he'll have to convince everyone Bridget isn’t just his flavor of the week, but his girlfriend. Being blackmailed into a fake relationship with Chad Gamble isn’t easy, especially when the sizzling physical attraction between them is undeniable. With a month to go on their arranged pretense, it's going to take every ounce of willpower they have not to fall into bed together...or in love.

When I say that Jen never ceases to amaze me with her awesome writing skills and talent in telling an amazing story with pivotal moments, romantic and steamy scenes, along with memorable characters; I truly mean it. I swear, this lady can do no wrong! Tempting the Player is an excellent installment in the Gamble Brothers series and a equal counterpart to its predecessor, Tempting the Best Man. It’s got it all – romance, a clever plot, witty characters, and those oh-so-delish steamy moments that will leave you craving more.

Tempting the Player leaves off a few months after Tempting the Best Man, and it revolves around Chase’s older brother, Chad (the second son of the Gamble family). Not only is he super-hot, but he’s a talented pro-baseball player with a rather playful reputation. The last thing he expected was to find love, but he finds it (and fights it) in Bridget. With a troubled past that has plagued all of the Gamble brothers, Chad isn’t one to settle down and give his heart away easily, so it was great seeing his relationship with Bridget play out. Bridget was a jaded character as well, as most adults tend to be after countless bad relationships, and I loved seeing them push each other to the limits and challenge each other romantically, emotionally, and intellectually. These are two very witty and often-times, snarky people whose banter always put a smile on my face. I love it when characters do that! This book got me all heated and cheesy from beginning to end. Jen knocks you off your socks right from the beginning, a trend I’m starting to notice from her (and one that she does VERY well). Bridget and Chad’s “first” meeting is a very believable moment, and one I’m sure many have experienced, and even the events that happened afterwards was so perfect, I’m glad Jen kept it real. There are probably two pivotal moments in the book that I loved the most, both involving Bridget, Chad, Chase, & Madison (yes, they make many appearances in this book, Bridget is Madison’s assistant after all). I really loved seeing Madison and Chase again, getting a glimpse at how their lives are after their story was told was simply awesome. It was also nice seeing Chandler, the eldest Gamble brother, and I honestly can’t wait to read his story (his love interest plays a very important part in this story). Anyways, those two moments – one at the beginning and one at the very end, had me cracking up and jumping for joy all at the same time. Honestly, Jen makes me feel all the emotions, I just can’t get enough!

The plot was very well-written and the sexy parts, strategically placed – made this an excellent contemporary adult novel (and that’s saying a lot given what the general public is reading now). I devoured this book well into the wee hours of the night and was on a “Jen high” for a few days afterwards (as I tend to be with all her books). If you need a little spark and steaminess in your life, but want a book with a little more substance, intrigue, and humor, then this is the book for you. Seriously, all of Jen’s books are the books for everyone, as I’ve yet to see someone who doesn’t like at least one of her books. Yes, I can go on and on about my love for her, but I’ll just end it with – Get. This. Book. NOW!

My Review of Tempting the Best Man by J. Lynn

9:00 AM Vi Nguyen 1 Comments

Madison Daniels has worshipped her brother's best friend since they were kids. Everyone thinks she and Chase Gamble would make the perfect couple, but there are two major flaws in their logic. 1) Chase has sworn off relationships of any kind, and 2) after blurring the line between friends and lovers for one night four years ago, they can't stop bickering. Forced together for her brother's wedding getaway, Chase and Madison decide to call a truce for the happy couple. Except all bets are off when they're forced to shack up in a tacky 70’s honeymoon suite and survive a multitude of "accidents" as the family tries to prove their "spark" can be used than for more than fighting. That is, if they don't strangle each other first…

Oh, where do I even begin?! The awesomeness and MUST READ-ness of this book is too much for words. Point blank – YOU. NEED. TO. READ. THIS. BOOK. RIGHT. NOW.

Seriously, stop what you’re doing right now and go buy this book, you won’t regret it! I loved everything about it. It’s got romance, humor, intrigue – everything you need in a good romance novel. And it’s in the adult genre so there are some pretty racy/steamy scenes in there that make you swoon and do a bunch of other things, *wink wink*. I loved that the story was told by both Chase and Madison’s points of view, because it gives you the chance to see what’s really going on and made the story that much more fun to read. I’m a sucker for a male’s POV so reading how he felt about Madison and their history together was what really made this an excellent read for me. Seriously, if you could see the Chase I imagined in my head, you’d want him too. I found all of the characters to be fun and a great addition to the story. The brothers, especially, were the centers of attention and I definitely wanted to know about them.

Anything J. Lynn write is like a drug to me. I devoured this book and honestly couldn’t put it down. J. Lynn writing is superb and utterly flawless. As always, J. Lynn captures you right from the very beginning and has you flipping pages like there’s no tomorrow. You’ll laugh, swoon, and get heated up at all the right moments reading this and if you’re anything like me, you’ll be begging J. Lynn to write some more about the Gamble brothers!
